Chateau Valcreuse

La Roche-Posay, France

The Chateau Valcreuse is a stately property located at the edge of the village of La Roche-Posay. The manicured grounds (complete with vineyards) lead to the picturesque Creuse River. The place has quite a history. It was built around 1850. The Nazi’s were so impressed with the property that they used it as their regional headquarters during the occupation. The current owners lovingly and beautifully restored the building over the last few years.

There are four rooms that are rented out mostly during the summer months. Our room was cosy and comfortable with an amazing bed and even a telescope The windows look out over the rolling fields of the nearby farms.

The caretakers, Noel and Laurence, were absolutely amazing. They bent over backwards to make us feel at home. When we arrived there was a roaring fire waiting for us. They plied us with great coffee every morning and even gave us a little sample of their pain perdu (French toast) for breakfast one morning.

You couldn’t ask for a more comfortable and relaxing place to spend a few days!
