We are in Nepal currently on our way to Tibet, the ultimate bucket list destination for both of us. I don’t know why Tibet holds such a fascination: the distance, isolation, scenery, ingrained belief system or just the super rich yak butter…..
Almost all of our big/complicated trips have been taken with Toto Tours out of Chicago (and this one is no different). We love traveling with Dan and are looking forward to taking such a big trip with such a small (6 person) group.
We got an amazing deal on our airfare flying from Toronto to Kathmandu. Unfortunately with the 16 hour layover in Hong Kong, our total travelling time was over 40 hours. I love visiting new places, seeing new sights and experiencing cultures, language and food that is different to what I grew up with in Canada but the actual traveling pretty much sucks (to use that quaint 1980’s expression.) The flights were fine but after we grabbed the train into Hong Kong, being jet lagged out of our minds, it was hard to relax, have fun and be civil to anyone around.
After arriving in Kathmandu, we were picked up at the airport by the travel company. I felt bad for the guide as he didn’t realize that we were staying at Dwarika’s Resort – about 45 minutes outside of town. It was a very welcome sight for all of us when we arrived at the hotel around 1 am. It was then straight to bed for some badly needed rest.
